Rosie the Riveter is a symbol of a woman’s role in the workforce during World War II. She epitomizes the dichotomy of a woman torn between asserting herself in the workplace and remaining beautiful and feminine at the same time. Clearly this wasn’t just an issue for women in the 1940’s. Modern girls are told that they can have it all, but if you’re a strong successful woman, is it still acceptable to be into makeup and clothes? YES. The ladies of women’s online magazine, M.I.S.S., have definitely mastered this balance. M.I.S.S. has collaborated with Australian print mag, Hell Yeah, on the cover spread for its second issue. “A Woman’s Work” channels Pop Art. icons like Rosie, and features Karmaloop brands, Dimepiece Designs, Doc Martens, and Hellz Bellz. The work wear-inspired clothing was combined with fun and feminine pieces for the shoot, creating a modern take on the 40’s pin-up look. Check out the cover on M.I.S.S., and check out The In and Out Tee and The HBIC Tank Dress in White featured above!

The Fringed Scarf by Dimepiece Designs

TWO EASY STEPS:
1. Cut off the bottom of a T-shirt below the sleeves, so that you have a big tube. Use a bigger T-shirt if you want to be able to wrap the scarf around twice.
2. Cut strips of fringe upwards towards the hem. I cut mine about 3/8″ wide. Quick and easy! I did mine while watching ANTM =)

Dimepiece Designs and music artist Cassie have collaborated for Fall and Winter 2009 to bring you Nine Lives, Dimepiece’s latest collection. Playing off their brand’s motto, “A kitten with claws”, Dimepiece describes Nine Lives as another installment to their ever-evolving and unceasing line based around female empowerment and an ode to change. The all black and white collection is a conceptual metaphor for the right to interchange your role in any way you please. The line is expressed by modern pop art-themed prints and t-shirts with the cheekiest and most feminist of phrases; along with hoodies, sweatshirts, leggings and jodhpers fabricated with an unusual mix of jersey, mesh and fish net. Cassie’s interchanging and emerging style, both in her appearance and as a music artist was a perfect addition to Nine Lives. Dimepiece and Cassie will release a special line of tanks and tees coinciding with the drop of Cassie’s new single , “Let’s Get Crazy”.
