Seamstress for the band

Wish you got to live through the ’70s? I do!  While it was undeniably a time of political and social turmoil and angst, it was also a time of independence, creativity, and discovery.  Let your inner hippie shine with some up-to-date tie dye!

No shirts, no shoes…NO DICE?!

Learn it. Know it. Live it.

Fast Times at Ridgemont High continues to be one of my favorite movies of all time. I can’t think of another teen film that more succinctly sums up high school; Or at least, my high school. One of the most memorable characters is the worldly Linda Barrett. I’m pretty sure Phoebe Cates’ career pretty much peaked with Fast Times (I’ve never seen her in anything else) but her role as Linda was so memorable, that let’s face it, every dude who has ever seen the movie has the image of her in the red bikini seared into the back of his eyeballs for life. All you need to recreate Linda’s look are some  super short shorts , an  over-sized sweater, some boho jewelry, and (obviously) some smokin’ hot swimwear. And of course a whole lotta ‘tude.

Holey Shi(r)t!

Have you heard about the infamous slashed army shirt by Balmain yet? If so, you already know that Christophe Decarnin is catching some serious flack for its offensively high price tag ($1,625). Some defend the designer (and the t-shirt), saying that they don’t mind paying the high price in exchange for a limited edition piece by a famous designer. I don’t care if Decarnin ripped the holes himself with his teeth (and he probably didn’t), that price is truly absurd. However, you gotta give credit where credit is due, and it seems as though the man behind Balmain has helped spearhead yet another hugely popular fashion trend: distressed and destroyed knits. If you’re like me and loving the look, check out these holey pieces by Unif, Cheap Monday and Insight.

Future Hair Trend?

IMG_8876ASEj

Spotted: models at the Cheap Monday Autumn/Winter 2010 show in Stockholm walking the runway with a very strange hairdo complementing their standard black, white and neutral tones. This fad is weird huh? While we don’t recommend running to the nearest salon for a gray pompadour just yet, we highly suggest checking out Cheap Monday’s current spring collection at Karmaloop.

The distressed denim look is definitely still turning heads, and to prove it Karmaloop has several different ways to rock the intentional “oops!” from flirty styles to edgier ones. Try out the Tight Jean in Splash by Cheap Monday, the Wine Stain Dress by Obey, the Thrasher Cut Off Shorts by Kill City, and the Denim Sweetheart Dress in Bleach Tie Dye by Rojas.

Gaga Oo La La

Love her or hate her, there’s no denying that the Lady has a style that’s just about as innovative as it gets. I’d give my baby toe to be able to spend the day with Nicola Formichetti, her stylist. Get a much toned down version of her look with the The Black Lace Anorak by Rojas, the Pamela Chain Dress by Motel, the Elsa Bow by Cheap Monday, the Keaton Pants by BB Dakota, and The aptly named Gaga Heel by Jeffrey Campbell

Steal Her Style: Jeanie Bueller

jeanie bueller

As Ferris’ angry and jealous younger sister, Jennifer Grey spent most of her time on screen trying to get her revenge on her mischievious brother. Her sense of humor could have used a make-over, but her style was on point.  Get the look with an oversized sweater, high-waisted jeans and some sneakers. Try  The Champion CVO Sneaker by Keds, the V-Fit Jean by Cheap Monday, The Pink Pearl Stud with Crystal Stone Earring by Betsey Johnson, The Jennifer Button Down by Alternative Apparel, and the Rich Grandfather Cardigan by Joyrich.
