A new frontier

When Alexander McQueen debuted his penultimate collection in October of ‘09, fashion critics raved that digitally engineered prints represent the future of fashion. This certainly does seem to be the case; Only a few months have passed and already brands like Motel are featuring prints inspired by technology and the digital age.

Strapping!

Why spend nearly $600 on a pair of Chloe canvas strap sandals when you can get some from 80%20 that are nearly identical and less than 1/5 of the price?  Not digging the canvas? Upgrade to a perforated wedge instead, and STILL have some serious cash $$$ left over. Not sold yet? Don’t forget that each 80%20 sandal features the signature hidden wedge, perfect for an instant growth spurt!

Spring Insight

It’s been a long, cold, icy winter, and the only beach I’ve seen for months has been on the travel channel. It’s not helping that brands like Insight keep coming out with increasingly beachy, surfer-inspired duds perfect for the spring break that I WON’T be going on.  Oh well, I might just cop some cute sundresses, turn the heat up real high in my apartment, and pretend.

Fringe benefits

One of my very favorite trends this year has been the whole epaulet/decorated soldier look–in fact, you can’t see me, but I’m rocking the Motel Chain Me dress right now as I type! I’m loving this fringey shouldered top by new brand Unif, partially because of the oh-so-reasonable price tag, but mostly because it’s just plain awesome.

Gaga and Cyndi raise awareness about HIV

On Monday, Lady Gaga and Cyndi Lauper took some time out of their busy schedules to educate the world about the grim reality that is HIV/AIDS.  Moderated by a very calm and subdued Sharon Osbourne (it’s been a long time since the reality show) the two iconic women stated the statistics about the location and reach of the disease and encouraged women, of any age and background, to practice safe sex and get tested regularly for HIV. Bringing a touch of humor to a serious discussion, Gaga promoted wearing a condom every time–”it’s not complicated, it’s a fashion statement!”

Kudos to MAC for choosing not only such strong females for their campaign, but ones who are well known for being outspoken about their sexuality.  Proving that being sexually educated means being sexually empowered, Gaga and Lauper give a discussion that is both candid and inspiring.

Watch the entire discussion here.

Sideways

Now I’m always a big fan of basic black, but sometimes you need that pop of color to lend you a little confidence. With warm weather just around the corner, don’t be afraid to stand out in a crazy citrus colored dress, like this one by Blaque Label!
